Porsche Macan Drops More Powerful Turbo Model

Porsche has revealed the lineup for the 2022 Macan crossover, with the GTS taking the place of the turbocharged model.

The standard Macan model is equipped with a 261-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the S model boasts a 375-horsepower turbocharged V6 engine inherited from the previous GTS model. The GTS model, on the other hand, is powered by a 434-horsepower turbocharged V6 engine from the previous turbocharger.

Porsche is set to release an electric variant of its popular Macan crossover in the near future. However, before its anticipated launch in 2023, the German automaker is revamping the configuration and range of gasoline-powered Macan engines for the 2022 model year. The updated Macan will be available for purchase in early 2022 and will be accompanied by the electric model, which boasts a longer range than the electric Taycan sedan and a distinctive appearance from the gas version.

The base Macan is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which has been upgraded to produce 261 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, an increase of 13 horsepower and 22 lb-ft. It can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds and has a top speed of 144 km/h. The Macan S also receives a boost in power with the addition of a 2.9-liter 375 hp biturbo V6 engine, previously found in the Macan GTS of the previous generation. The new GTS model replaces the turbocharged Macan as the top-tier model for 2022, utilizing a 434-horsepower version of the previous turbocharged V6 engine. It is expected to match the 3.5-second 0-60 mph time achieved by the 2020 Macan Turbo, with a top speed of 169 mph according to Porsche. All Macan models come with all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The Macan S comes with standard Porsche adaptive shock absorbers and sports suspension. The Macan GTs models feature Porsche carbide-coated brakes, originally seen on the Cayenne SUV, and pneumatic springs that lower the GTS by 0.4 inches compared to other Macan models. The GTS sports kit, available as an option, offers a launch control function, torque vectorized rear axle, Pirelli P Zero Corsa summer tires, sports seats, and black exterior panels.

The updated front and enlarged black rear diffuser of the 2022 Macan result in minor external variations. There are now seven new wheel options available, with standard sizes ranging from 19 to 21 inches, depending on the chosen model. GTS models will feature new 21-inch black satin RS Spyder Design wheels, along with bright LED headlights and a sports exhaust system with black tips.

The 2022 model of the Macan features tactile buttons on the center console, replacing the previous button-filled design. These buttons are similar to those found on the Cayenne and can be easily accessed with a shorter speed shifter. The touchscreen remains at 10.9 inches and includes a navigation system and Apple CarPlay as standard (unfortunately, Android Car is still not available). Additionally, the new Macan will come equipped with a 911-gen 992 steering wheel.
