Audi Rs3 Unveiled with 401 Horsepower of Five-Cylinder Power

Audi unveils 2022 A3 sedan-based RS3 model.

The engine powering it is a 2.5-liter inline-five with turbocharging, producing 401 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque.

The all-wheel drive system comes with a fresh torque vectorization setup.

The new Audi A3 lineup is now complete with the highly anticipated release of the RS3 Performance model. Set to make its official debut in 2022, the RS3 boasts a powerful 401 hp five-cylinder engine, standard all-wheel drive with torque vectoring, and a more aggressive design compared to its predecessor. (Note: The RS3 Sportback sedan is only available in Europe and will not be offered in the U.S.)

The 2.5-liter inline-five engine that was highly praised in the previous RS3 will continue to be used, but with modifications that will result in increased power and torque. The new RS3 now boasts 401 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, which is 7 horsepower and 15 pound-feet more than the 2020 RS3 in the United States. According to Audi, it can go from 0 to 62 mph in 3.8 seconds, but we anticipate it will be even quicker, considering the previous generation RS3 achieved 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds. The seven-speed dual-clutch transmission is once again the standard option, and the adjustable exhaust is specifically designed to produce a unique five-cylinder sound.

The enhanced all-wheel drive system of the RS3 now includes torque vectoring for the rear axle. This feature redirects power in varying manners based on the selected driving mode. Additionally, the RS Torque Rear drift mode allows for torque to be directed to a single rear wheel, enabling sliding along the track.

The new RS3 has a slightly wider track compared to its predecessor and is 0.4 inches smaller than the S3. Optional features include adaptive shock absorbers and carbon-ceramic rotors for the front brakes. Standard equipment includes 19-inch wheels.

The RS3 stands out visually with a black grille, a protruding spoiler, and a diffuser on the rear panel. It also features unique lighting elements in the daytime running lights, designed to resemble a chessboard flag. The option for a black roof and matching interior inserts are available. The interior also boasts numerous carbon fiber panels and a digital meter cluster with a track-inspired speedometer display.
